What is Torfil?

Torfil is a generic tadalafil tablet sold at Watsons and other Philippine pharmacies. MIMS Philippines, the reference most local doctors use, lists Torrent as its manufacturer and distributor; Torrent is a large Indian generics company.

Tadalafil was first brought to market by Lilly as Cialis. Like sildenafil, it blocks the PDE5 enzyme so that blood can flow into the penis when you are aroused. Its difference is how long it stays in the body: it works for up to about 36 hours, which is why some men prefer it to sildenafil. Our tadalafil guide covers the medicine in depth, and sildenafil vs tadalafil compares the two.

Is Torfil registered with the FDA Philippines?

Check it yourself on the FDA Verification Portal at verification.fda.gov.ph. Choose drug products, search "Torfil" or "tadalafil", and you will see each registered strength with its registration number, holder and manufacturer.

We have not quoted a registration number because we have not seen one we can cite, and the portal is always current. Compare what it shows with the box you are given. If the details do not match, or the product comes from a seller who does not ask for a prescription, do not use it. Our page on fake ED pills explains the warning signs.

How much is Torfil in the Philippines?

Torfil 20 mg was listed at ₱395 a tablet at Watsons, against ₱985.25 for Cialis 20 mg at the same chain. The lower strengths cost less per tablet: ₱220 for 10 mg and ₱95 for 2.5 mg.

At 20 mg, the priciest verified tablet is ₱1,053.75 (Cialis, Southstar Drug), about 3 times the Torfil price, for the same active ingredient. If your doctor prescribes tadalafil every day, 30 tablets of Torfil 2.5 mg come to about ₱NaN a month. See the tadalafil price page for every brand and strength, and daily tadalafil for how daily treatment works.

What strengths does Torfil come in?

Torfil is listed in three strengths:

  • 2.5 mg
  • 10 mg
  • 20 mg

Tadalafil is used in two ways: on demand, before sex, or as a low dose every day. Which way suits you, and at what strength, is decided by your doctor, based on how often you expect to need it, your heart and kidney health and your other medicines. Note that Torfil does not appear in a 5 mg strength in the listings we checked, while Cialis does.

Torfil vs Cialis: is there a difference?

The active ingredient is the same. Torfil and Cialis both contain tadalafil, and a generic registered in the Philippines must show bioequivalence: the same amount of tadalafil reaches the blood, at about the same rate.

What differs:

  • Price. Cialis 20 mg costs more than twice as much as Torfil 20 mg at Watsons.
  • Maker. Cialis is the originator, first marketed by Lilly. Torfil is a generic from Torrent, per MIMS.
  • Strengths. Cialis is stocked in 5 mg and 20 mg at the chains we checked; Torfil in 2.5, 10 and 20 mg.
  • Look and fillers. Tablet colour, shape and inactive ingredients differ. They do not change how the medicine works.

Some men stay with the brand they were first prescribed, which is fine. Others switch to save money, and a doctor can confirm whether the switch makes sense.

Can you use Torfil if you have diabetes or high blood pressure?

Often yes, but only after a doctor has checked. Diabetes and hypertension are among the most common causes of ED in Filipino men, and many men who need tadalafil are already on maintenance medicines for one or both.

Tadalafil can lower blood pressure a little on its own, and more so with alpha blockers (used for blood pressure or an enlarged prostate). Most other blood pressure and diabetes medicines are not a problem, but your doctor needs the full list, including anything from a barangay health centre. ED can also be an early warning of heart disease, so a consultation is a good moment to check blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

How should you store Torfil in the Philippine heat?

Follow the storage line printed on the box, keep the tablets in their original blister until use, and keep them away from children. A bathroom cabinet or a car glovebox in April is too hot and humid.

If a tablet looks cracked, discoloured or damp, do not use it; return it to the pharmacy. Never move tablets into an unlabelled container: if you ever need emergency care, the box tells the doctor exactly what you took.

What are the side effects of Torfil?

Torfil has the side effects of any tadalafil. The most common are headache, indigestion, back pain, muscle aches, flushing and a stuffy nose. Back and muscle pain are more typical of tadalafil than of sildenafil and usually settle within a day or two.

Serious effects are rare but need urgent care: an erection lasting more than 4 hours, sudden vision or hearing loss, or chest pain. Because tadalafil stays in the body for a long time, the nitrate warning lasts longer too: a doctor in an emergency needs to know you took it in the past two days. Read more in ED medicine side effects and safety.

How do you get a prescription for Torfil?

You need a prescription from a licensed doctor. That can be your GP, a urologist, or a telehealth doctor, which many men in Metro Manila and the provinces choose for privacy or because clinic hours clash with work.

Tadalafil is not an over-the-counter medicine in the Philippines. Our guide to whether Viagra is over the counter explains the rules for all ED medicines, and online ED consultations compares the services. A doctor may also suggest checks for blood sugar and blood pressure, since ED is often linked to diabetes and hypertension.

Frequently asked questions

Is Torfil the same as Cialis?

Torfil and Cialis both contain tadalafil. A generic registered with the FDA Philippines has to show it delivers the same amount of tadalafil to the blood as the original. The maker, the tablet's look and the price are what differ.

Who makes Torfil?

MIMS Philippines lists Torrent, the Indian pharmaceutical company, as the manufacturer and distributor of Torfil. The registration holder and manufacturer are also shown on the FDA Philippines verification portal and on the box.

Do you need a prescription for Torfil?

Yes. Torfil is a prescription medicine, and Watsons lists it as prescription required. A licensed doctor also checks whether tadalafil is safe with your heart and your other medicines.

How long does Torfil last?

Tadalafil is known for its long action: its effect can last up to about 36 hours, compared with roughly 4 to 6 hours for sildenafil. That is a property of the medicine, so it applies to Torfil as much as to Cialis.
